This Sunday is #WorldEmojiDay. Emojis are popular not only because they can be adorable, but because humans process visual information 60,000 times faster than text, and 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual.
I’ve written about micro-engagements and emoji marketing before, but in honor of World Emoji Day, I thought I’d share why—and how—we and a couple of our clients are celebrating.
Participating in World Emoji Day can provide companies with the following benefits:
- Companies can show their lighter side and provide engaging (and hopefully sharable) content.
- It provides opportunity for visibility beyond current followers. Content appears in the trending topic search results, reaching a much larger audience and thus offering the opportunity to grow awareness for your brand and gain new followers.
- Brands can show that they are in tune with new media.
Here at Roberts, we thought the best way to celebrate was to engage our employees to show off our fun corporate culture as we posed with/as our favorite emojis. It was actually very telling, with some pairings so fitting that it convinced us that there really is such a thing as a “spirit emoji.”
For ITT Goulds Pumps, one of our B2B industrial engineering clients, we thought we’d have some fun having @ITTGouldPumps request a new “pump” emoji.
For Heritage Christian Services, one of our non-profit clients, we had been developing a personality quiz to raise awareness for their core values and their career opportunities. Once the quiz was finalized as “What emoji suits your soul?”—we knew we had to launch on World Emoji Day. The timing aligned perfectly, and the quiz is live as of today! I just took it—it’s fun, easy, and I got HUMOR.
